Using the Toolbar

The toolbar allows you to interact with the map by clicking on the map with a tool.

You can also interact with the map using the keyboard.   Also see Using the mouse for tips on using the mouse to interact with the map.

To use a tool

Note: Some tools do an action immediately. These include the Full-extent and Print tools.

Tools

The following tools are currently available:

Name Icon Description
Pan (recenter) Pan tool Click and drag the map: Click and hold the left mouse button on the map, and drag the map. The map will be recentered, with the location dragged at the location you dropped it.
Full extent Full map extent Full extent: Immediately zooms the map out to the area of all features and layers. The active tool does not change.
Identify Identify tool Click to identify: Click with the left mouse button on the map. A small icon is added to the map identify icon and a callout box displays the name of a feature at the location. See Identify features on the map for how to use the identification information.
Measure Measure tool Measure distance or area: See Measuring for usage.
Street View Street View tool View an street with Google Map's Street View: Click with the left mouse button on a street in the map. A new browser window will open displaying Google Map's Street View, if it is available at the location. Google Maps Street View provides 360° panoramic street-level views.
Birds Eye View Birds Eye tool View an area with Microsoft's Virtual Earth Birds Eye: Click with the left mouse button on the map. A new browser window will open Virtual Earth™ displaying the location you cliked in the Bird's Eye view. Bird's Eye is a high resolution, low oblique angle photo.
Print Print tool Print the map: Exports the map as a PNG image, which opens a new browser window. The image can then printed or saved to your computer.
